wiiulogoWhile Wii U’s situation has never been as dire as the internet made out, it was fashionable to promote the idea that Wii U had failed, full stop.

So back when sales weren’t meeting expectations anywhere in the world, Australia’s most present bricks-and-mortar gaming retailer decided that the “Wii U” was so irrelevant it didn’t even deserve a tab on their website’s navigation bar anymore.

They relegated it to a spot on the sub menu under “MORE”, back there with categories like “LOOT” and “PSP”.

Well, times have changed, EB.

Most gamers have gotten past the Wii U is dead (which in turn meant, of course, that Nintendo was dead) mentality and accepted the machine for what it is:

A platform for top quality first and second party Nintendo games that isn’t as successful as it’s predecessor, nor it’s current competition.

There’s a place for a third machine in this generation, and alternative to the current top two.

Wii U fills that spot perfectly, and there’s no denying Nintendo’s machine has not only the best line-up of exclusives of the three, but the best line up of games, full stop.

I think it’s time EB Games accepted this too, and pulled Wii U out from the category of “other” and let it live out the rest of it’s life in dignity with it’s own dedicated navigation tab.

ryuamiibo2Three new Smash Bros. Series amiibo are coming to Australia on March 19.

R.O.B is getting his second amiibo, making him the first character outside the Mushroom Kingdom cast to get two amiibo, and no, Turbo Charge Donkey Kong doesn’t count.

This new one features everyone’s favourite robot in his red and grey colours, the way he appeared when he was bundled with the Famicom all those years ago.

Street Fighter’s Ryu is coming as well, and he’s sure to be incredibly popular. It’s not only Smash fans and amiibo collectors wanting this one- it’s the Street Fighter fans too, and there’s a hell of a lot of them of all ages.

It’ll be interested to see how the supply is managed with Ryu. I think he’s going to be one of the biggest sellers ever.

Rounding out the three R’s is Fire Emblem’s Roy. Roy’s a Smash Bros. veteran now, so it’s good to see him finally getting an amiibo, he is far more deserving than Lucina or Robin.

I’ll post any bargains for these three new amiibo as I see them.

Thanks to ebgames.com.au for the pic of Ryu.5

mincraftI have never played Minecraft.

Nor do I, even after the release of Minecraft: Wii U Edition this week, have any desire to.

Im not sure there was too many people clamouring to play the billion dollar indie title on Wii U, I think people just wanted this version on principal.

Sure, this is the first time the game’s appearing on a Nintendo platform, but there’s so much great indie content exclusive to Nintendo’s two machines, Minecraft making an appearance hardly seems worth celebrating.

I was convinced this release was going to coincide with ‘the player’ being announced as the winner of the Smash Ballot, but Bayonetta proved too popular.

You can buy Minecraft: Wii U Edition for $39.95 on the Australian eSHop.

This is the best price I’ve seen at retail.
