Cereza_Bayonetta_2_renderI just wanted to remind you that Bayonetta and some guy from Fire Emblem are downloadable from today on the Aussie eShop.

These additions of course signal the end of Smash character DLC for now.

chasemcLast week I was talking about Smash 4‘s impressive roster and I touched on which third party characters I thought might get a start next time.

I forgot all about Chase McCain.

He’s the man at the centre of LEGO City Undercover, a Wii U exclusive which is not only one of the best games on the system, but one of the best games of this generation full stop.

Chase McCain funny, loveable, and a trained fighter- but he was also there during the tricky, uncertain times around the start of Wii U’s life cycle.

Bayonetta might be the golden girl right now, but she, like most people, doesn’t understand that the limelight she revels in might never have even been switched on if not for the quiet achieving pioneers like Chase McCain.

He deserves a start in Smash 5 is what I’m saying here.

No I’m not drunk. You can follow me on twitter: @rustyshell and Miiverse: zinger_AU

smashlogoOnce Bayonetta and that Fire Emblem guy arrive sometime next year, Smash 4’s final roster will be set.

A fair while ago I compiled my dream roster for the (then untitled) new Super Smash Bros. game.

It turns out that of the twelve characters I detailed, four actually made it into the game(s).

That’s a pretty impressive one third of my list, even though I did initially include Mii characters as a joke.

At the time I thought it was going a step too far to allow Mii’s to be playable in a game of such distinct pedigree.

However, Sakurai and the team made it work- and work quite well, according to someone I spoke to who plays at tournament level.

I’m still bummed about Bayonetta getting a start over Travis Touchdown, and that another fire emblem character gets in over someone like Girahim- but with a line up of fighters this robust and varied, I wouldn’t dare complain.

Given the doors are well and truly open to third party characters now, I’m sure Nintendo are already taking expressions of interest for the next game.

Rosalina can breathe easy now she’s not the biggest queue jumper in the game.

There’s a certain level of prestige connected with an appearance in Smash, especially for third party characters, so I hope Nintendo remembers to keep the club exclusive in the future.

Having said that, my money’s on Shovel Knight appearing in the next game, as well as The Player from Minecraft (who I was sure was going to win the ballot).

Nintendo will have Elma or Lin from Xenoblade Chronicles X, among others from their own stable, but I’ll tell you what:

If Wii Fit Trainer can get a start, that awesome pink rabbit from Nintendo Badge Arcade on the 3DS can too. I love that guy.

Make it happen, Nintendo.

mincraftWho do you think will win the international character ballot for a spot in Smash Bros?

Forget about who you want to win, and tell me who you think will win.

I am going to say The Player from Minecraft.

Honestly, who else could possibly win an international poll in 2015?

P.S You can see who I voted for here

vjoe1 When one thinks of criminally under used video game personalities, the likeable, versatile, funny, cape-wearing Viewtiful Joe sits right at the top of the list.

With two incredible games on PS2 and Gamecube, a Gamecube exclusive four player brawler, and appearances in a few of Capcom’s cross over fighting titles, Viewtiful Joe is the absolute perfect fit for Smash Bros.

Whether or not Sakurai and his team are looking for “perfect fits” is still a contentious issue.

I mean, who would have thought Duck Hunt Duo or Wii Fit Trainer would ever have made the cut in Nintendo’s biggest and best gaming spectacle?

Regardless, Viewtiful Joe deserves more love, and he’s already proven he can hold his own with the big guns in the world of high profile fighting games.

That’s why he got a vote from me.

Henshin a go-go baby!

Here’s my first and second votes in the ballot

duckhuntamiiboThe latest wave of amiibo are hitting shelves in Australia on Saturday, September 26.

Here I break down what Aussie retailers are selling them for.

EB Games – All figures for $17.95

KMart – All figures for $17 (Selected stores only)

Big W –Their website says $25, but I’m assured by two Big W stores that they “don’t know” if they will be $15 like the rest of the range.

The Gamesmen – All figures $17.95

MewtwqwWith the amiibo drought pretty much over, news comes that Mewtwo’s Smash Bros. amiibo is coming to Aussie stores on Saturday, October 24.

Will he be as hard to find as he is in the Pokemon games? Will he be as hard to find as the rest of his amiibo counterparts when they were first released?

I don’t know, but I do know my body is ready, my wallet is ready, and the staff at my local JB Hi-Fi better be ready.

P.S. The only amiibo I am missing at this stage is Smash Bros. Peach.

You can check out the entire amiibo line up here.

Well, there’s not much respectable about a man in his thirties coveting little plastic figurines, but still- I’m pretty pleased with how my collection is coming along.

I have been lucky a few times, like when I walked into a JB in the early days and picked up a Marth, Diddy Kong, and Zelda in one hit.

Then there was the time I saw Marth, Lucina, and Robyn in the same store next to nothing but Pikachus.

While they might not do much, and they’re certainly a little over-priced- I really dig the amiibo designs.

There’s just something about them being made and distributed under the watchful eye of Nintendo themselves that really makes them special.

Also, I appreciate how nice it is to be able to afford to just buy them on the spot as I see them.

Out of the Smash Bros. series released so far, all I’m missing is Peach, Shulk, Ike, Sheik, and Ness.

Not bad going.

lucas1I’m pleased to meet you now how’d you do?

Most Smash Bros. players have already met Lucas, but now he’s coming to tell his stories in Smash for 3DS and Wii U.

Available to download on June 14 at an outrageous $5.20, I’ll be welcoming one of my favourite Smash characters back into the fray, even if I do have to pay that ridiculous amount for the privilege.

An extra $10 to play as Lucas and Mewtwo is a bit steep Nintendo, so be thankful there’s plenty of suckers like me around.

Will you pay to fight as Lucas? Let me know by leaving a comment!

I took some photos of my Charizard amiibo this afternoon and I thought I’d share them.

Click on the images for a closer look, I took these using a HTC One M8.
